KUALA LUMPUR, 17 August 2021 – UMW Group’s wholly-owned subsidiary, UMW Innovation and R&D Centre Sdn. Bhd. (“UIRDC”) has entered right into a Memorandum of Cooperation (“MoC”) with SIRIM Berhad, an organization under the purview of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry, to shape a strategic collaboration especially withinside the areas of innovation and technology.
Capitalising on the MoC, the UMW Group targets to foster technological development through SIRIM’s Industrial Centre of Innovation and Technology. Among the diagnosed key areas of capacity, collaboration are Smart Manufacturing, Nanotechnology, Industrial Biotechnology in addition to Testing, Inspection & Certification. The essence of the strategic collaboration encompasses scientific industrial studies, provision of technology transfer, and consultancy offerings in addition to the improvement of recent Malaysian requirements.
Through this collaboration, the UMW Group could benefit from the right of entry to SIRIM’s expertise in the development of requirements that is at the leading edge of technology innovation for numerous industries. Furthermore, both parties will be cooperating in technical expertise and training which will result in the execution of projects in addition to commercialisation of products.
The MoC signing was executed virtually between Dato’ Dr. Ahmad Sabirin Arshad, President and Group Chief Executive of SIRIM Berhad and Dato’ Ahmad Fuaad Kenali, President and Group CEO of UMW Holdings Berhad.
Dato’ Dr. Ahmad Sabirin Arshad, President and Group Chief Executive of SIRIM Berhad stated the collaboration, amongst others, will offer SIRIM and UMW a platform to discover potential areas inclusive of in Industry 4.0, fabrication of machinery and equipment, renewable energy and environmental technology.
“Through UIRDC, we are hoping to work with the relevant industries and stakeholders, to provide consultancy and technical assistance in technology, recommending proposals and intervention plans for nurturing the upstream, middle, and downstream enterprise; and the application of SIRIM’s technology, innovative solutions or adoption of different technology to specific target groups. Areas that we will explore include Industry 4.0 solutions and water filtration technology for industry and community use,” he added.
