KUALA LUMPUR: Eco World Development Group Berhad [EcoWorld Malaysia] was conferred the SDG Ambition Benchmark 2: Net-Positive Water Impacts in Water-Stressed Basins Award at the United Nations Global Compact Malaysia & Brunei’s (UNGCMYB) inaugural Sustainability Performance Awards 2021. Deputy Chief Executive Officer of EcoWorld Malaysia, Dato’ Seri S. Rajoo accepted the award from Bursa Malaysia CEO Muhamad Umar Swift at the ceremony held yesterday.
EcoWorld’s win was in recognition of its water conservation efforts by the Group’s Landscape department, where water collected from detention ponds within individual projects is utilised to water the grass, plants and foliage as an alternative to using treated water. For the three years from 2019 to 2021, the estimated total conservation on treated water usage through this initiative is approximately 180,000 m3.
“We are very proud to have an esteemed organisation such as the UNGCMYB acknowledge our efforts in conserving natural resources. At EcoWorld, we are committed to driving sustainability in both our operations and in the communities we serve. This award is a great encouragement for us to continue to enhance our efforts to grow our business sustainably and create value for our stakeholders, while acting responsibly as a good corporate citizen and minimising our impact on the environment,” said Rajoo.
The UNGC is a strategic policy initiative which aims to mobilise a global movement of sustainable companies and stakeholders to achieve the UN’s vision for sustainability. Its Malaysia & Brunei chapter is a key driver in the move for corporate Malaysia to work together towards the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
The SDG Ambition Benchmark is a set of goals that challenge organisations to set more ambitious goals and targets in the areas in which business is positioned to have a substantial impact. UNGCMYB Sustainability Performance Awards 2021 is a way to recognise and inspire efforts made by companies of all sizes in making sustainability an integral part of their business strategies.
