The new decade starts off with a unique trend in the Malaysian social media scene.
Take a quick look at Twitter and you may find the feed full of memes with this seemingly innocuous line.
Memes are also filling up the timeline in Facebook and Instagram rapidly.
What is the deal with this unassuming sentence?
This line was taken from audio recordings that were released by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), as part of investigations involving former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
While there had been many other audio recordings, this line was the one that stood out the most.
In one of the clips, a phone conversation that was allegedly taking place between Datuk Seri Najib Razak and his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor could hear the seemingly furious lady berating her husband, “Darling, can I advise you, can I advise you something!“
According to New Straits Times, shortly after the audio recordings were released to the public, social media was flooded with a variety of memes and parodies with the line “Can I advise you something”.
This clip was one of nine audio recordings allegedly taken in 2016 involving high-profile individuals in a 1Malaysia Development Berhad scandal. Investigations are still ongoing.
